An unconfirmed cougar sighting was reported this morning at approximately 8.30 a.m. in Sunriver, the most recent of several reports of cougar activity in the area since late April.
The animal was seen crossing the road near the intersection of South Century Drive and Abbot Drive, according to a press statement released by the Sunriver River Police Department today.
Law enforcement and representatives of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife responded to the call but were unable to locate the cougar. No public safety risk is currently in place, according to the statement.
The public is advised to follow ODFW guidelines when encountering a cougar, these include not turning one’s back to the animal, appearing large, not running away and fighting back if attacked.
