Bulletin Staff Report

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife received a report of a cougar sighting near the canal close to Fred Meyer in Bend on Monday.

This followed a report of a deer killed within a subdivision on the east rim of the Deschutes River Canyon in April. ODFW investigated the site and confirmed it as a cougar kill.

ODFW and Bend police believe the cougar to be a public safety threat based on these and previously reported sightings.

ODFW is taking steps to kill the cougar, according to an email Wednesday.
