Staffers at the BottleDrop, an automated recycling facility with more than 40 locations statewide, are asking customers to avoid the Bend and Redmond branches this week due to delays caused by equipment failure.
Redmond BottleDrop employees have been hand-counting bottles and cans since a power surge damaged equipment earlier this week, Joel Schoening, community relations manager for BottleDrop, said by phone.
Hand-counting is causing longer than usual wait times and as a result the Bend facility at 755 NE Second St. is also busier than usual as recyclers look for alternative locations, said Schoening.
Repairs at the Redmond location on 1204 SW Lake Road are expected to be complete by Friday, he added.
“Repairs on the way but things are moving slowly,” said Schoening. “We are advising people to wait a few extra days to do their recycling if possible.”
