Prescribed burns are scheduled in the area and residents near the Lost Tracks Golf Course and Phil’s Trail could see smoke and feel health impacts.
Burns were ignited 10 a.m. Monday about 5 miles southwest of Sisters near Forest Road 1505. Firefighters plan ignitions south of Crescent and three miles northeast of the intersection of U.S. Highway 97 and state Highway 58. No closures are expected.
Weather permitting, firefighters on Tuesday will ignite prescribed burns on 234 acres west of Bend in the Phil’s Trail system, including a portion of Marvin’s Gardens. The area will be closed for several days while firefighters monitor hot spots on trails.
Also Tuesday, firefighters will continue burns in the Sisters Ranger District approximately 2.5 miles southwest of Sisters off Forest Road 1505.
The burns are meant to reduce hazardous fuels and reintroduce low-intensity fire to a fire-adapted ecosystem, according to Forest Service spokeswoman Kassidy Kern.
“Due to the location of these units, the public could see smoke and drivers may experience smoke impacts on nearby highways and Forest roads,” Kern wrote in a release.
