Parents in Bend and Redmond will get to meet with local suicide-prevention experts and learn how they can support children in stressful times at two interactive sessions next week.
The Central Oregon Suicide Prevention Alliance is running these events at Mountain View High School from 5 to 7:45 p.m. Tuesday and at Ridgeview High School on Thursday from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. with the assistance of the Bend-La Pine and Redmond school districts.
Parents who attend will receive free dinner and learn how to have conversations with their children about suicide and depression, find resources to support their kids and hear from local people whose lives have been affected by youth suicide, according to a Redmond School District press release.
Child care will be provided at the sessions, and programming will be available in English and Spanish. A Bend-La Pine Schools board meeting will be held immediately following Tuesday’s event at Mountain View.
Similar events were held in March at La Pine and Sisters high schools.
