Pacific Crest Middle School Principal Chris Boyd will be the principal at a southeast Bend high school slated to open in 2021, Bend-La Pine Schools announced Friday.
Boyd was one of four finalists for the principal job at the new school, which will be built at the intersection of Knott Road and SE 15th Street. He has been the principal at Pacific Crest since before it opened in September 2015.
Before coming to Bend in 2014, Boyd was the associate director of secondary programs for the North Clackamas School District, principal of Happy Valley Middle School and assistant principal at Clackamas High School. He also spent nine years as a teacher and coached soccer at Clackamas High School.
Boyd said in a statement he wanted the new high school to put students at the center of everything it does and help them to grow academically and socially.
While his salary has yet to be finalized, school district spokeswoman Alandra Johnson said it will fall somewhere between $115,467 and $122,995, the range for a principal at a large high school. That’s higher than the range for an elementary or middle school principal.
Boyd will start in the new role July 1, Johnson said. The district has not yet announced when it will start searching for a new principal for Pacific Crest Middle School.
