Court halts kids’ climate lawsuit — The Oregon Court of Appeals on Wednesday rejected an appeal filed by a pair of young Eugene residents who first sued the state in 2011 in an attempt to force officials to put in place new rules that work to slow climate change. The court’s opinion states that a common-law “public trust” doctrine in Oregon does not require state officials to protect Oregon’s natural resources from the effects of global warming. The ruling essentially upholds a Lane County Circuit Court judge’s decision to dismiss the lawsuit.
