Michael “The Train Man” Lavrich returns to the Downtown Bend Library starting Dec.20 to share his extensive collection of model trains.
It will be Lavrich’s 19th year displaying his trains at the library. He started collecting trains about 20 years ago, which include trains from the 1920s and 1930s made by Lionel, Dorfan, Ives and American Flyer.
Lavrich, a former kindergarten teacher, said he dedicates much of December to setting up the display. It takes about four days to set it up and four days to take it down, plus a few weeks of work from home, he said.
The library has a time-lapse video showing the setup process on its YouTube channel online at www.youtube.com/deschuteslibrary.
All ages are invited to watch and listen as the trains run.
Trains will run Dec. 20 to 28, but running times vary by day:
Dec. 20-21: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Dec. 22-23: noon to 5 p.m.
Dec. 27-28: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
