A 73-year-old Prineville man was killed Wednesday morning after a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 97 near Airport Way in Redmond.
Richard James Lanning was traveling northbound at about 9 a.m. in a silver 2005 Chevrolet Malibu when he crossed over into the southbound lanes and crashed head-on with a Bend Roof Truss vehicle driven by 48-year-old Bend resident Kavan Rose, according to Oregon State Police.
Lanning died at the scene. Rose was transported to St. Charles Redmond for non-life threatening injuries.
Highway 97 was closed for about three and a half hours following the crash.
Oregon State Police was assisted by Redmond Police, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Bend Police, Oregon Department of Transportation and Redmond Fire and Rescue.
