Local groups, including the Deschutes Democrats, Indivisible Bend, The Vocal Seniority and 350Deschutes, planned the “rapid response protest.” The protest was one of hundreds taking place across the country in response to the appointment of Acting U.S. Attorney General Matt Whitaker in the wake of Jeff Sessions being forced out as attorney general. Whitaker would oversee the investigation into Russia’s involvement in the 2016 presidential election, and the Nobody Is Above the Law network that organized the protests want Whitaker to commit to not supervising Mueller’s investigation.
