Several people were injured Thursday evening in a multivehicle accident on U.S. Highway 97 south of Madras.
At about 9 p.m., a 2006 Saturn ION driven by 23-year-old Portland resident Casandra Monsivais rear-ended a 2013 Dodge Ram pickup truck stopped at a repaving project near milepost 101. The truck, driven by 27-year-old Spokane resident Kelty Godby, was waiting for the highway to open to southbound traffic. The impact pushed the truck into a 2014 Subaru Crosstrek driven by 57-year-old Timothy Parrish of Chiloquin.
Two passengers in the Saturn were injured seriously enough to require transport by ambulance, according to the Oregon State Police. Twenty-year-old Portland resident Rachel Reed was evacuated by air ambulance with life-threatening injuries, and 18-year-old Gresham Resident Hailee Owen was taken to the hospital by ground ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. The other occupants of the vehicles involved were treated for minor injuries and released.
