The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office identified a Sunriver man who drowned Thursday in the Deschutes River as Allan Periman.
At about 8:30 p.m., a woman called 911 to report that her roommate had jumped into the river and not been seen for about 45 minutes. When deputies arrived, they learned that Periman, 63, had been at the Snow Goose Court boat launch with his brother and decided to swim across the river. He struggled with the current, however, and was swept downstream. His brother lost sight of him when he rounded a bend.
After looking unsuccessfully for his brother, the man returned home and told their roommate, who called 911.
At about 9:40 p.m., a deputy found the man’s body about 500 yards downstream from the boat launch. He was caught in a snag on the opposite side of the river.
Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in Periman’s drowning, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office would like anyone who may have witnessed the drowning to call 541-693-6911.
