The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office has found a 49-year-old Bend woman who left her house barefoot and without her cell phone, wallet or glasses Tuesday night.
Dawn R. Garcia was found on private property off Glacier View Drive Thursday afternoon, slightly west from her home in the 64800 block of Hunnell Road south of Tumalo, said Sgt. William Bailey, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office. Medics were evaluating her around 4 p.m.
“We’re all very thankful that she was found alive,” Bailey said. “Deputies are with her now and we’re getting her medical attention.”
Garcia was last seen near her home around 9 p.m. Tuesday, and the sheriff’s office heard of a possible sighting near the intersection of U.S. Highway 97 and Tumalo Road.
Deputies used a police dog, two drones and teams of search and rescue trackers while searching for Garcia, and more than 1,000 people living in the search area received calls through the county’s emergency notification system. During the search, Bailey asked people living between Old Bend-Redmond Highway and Highway 97 to search their property and outbuildings for anything “out of the ordinary.”
The office made a similar request in early March during the search for missing Bend woman Sara Gomez, who still has not been found.
