Two residents of a Redmond apartment complex sustained minor injuries and others were evacuated Wednesday afternoon from a fire in one of the apartments.

Fire crews responded just before 2 p.m. to the Chaparral Apartments on SW Rimrock Way and discovered flames coming from two apartment units, according to Redmond Fire Marshal Traci Cooper.

The fire appears to have come from the lower apartment and moved up into the attic of the apartment above, Cooper said. And smoke probably affected the other 12 apartments in the complex, she said.

The evacuated residents are accounted for and staying at nearby Redmond High School as fire crews continue to work on the scene. Crews are still attending to the smoke and fire damage.

Redmond Fire and Rescue was assisted by the Sunriver and Black Butte Ranch fire departments, Pacific Power crews and the Red Cross.
