Former MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry will help Oregon State University-Cascades celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy Monday.

Harris-Perry, a political commentator and the author of two books about being black in America, will speak at OSU’s Corvallis campus at 11 a.m. Her speech will be livestreamed to the Bend campus, and OSU-Cascades faculty will follow her presentation with a panel discussion at Tykeson Hall, Room 111.

The panel discussion is free and open to all.

OSU-Cascades students and staff will also volunteer Monday morning as part of a day of service. Following a 9 a.m. breakfast, up to 50 students are expected to travel to nonprofit organizations including the Ronald McDonald House, Healing Reins and The Environmental Center to cook, clean and organize teaching materials.
