A La Pine man died Saturday afternoon following a leap of more than 100 feet into Prineville Reservoir.

At about 3:30 p.m., deputies from the Crook County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report that someone had jumped from Dinosaur Rock into the reservoir and failed to surface. Deputies searched for the man, 28-year-old Christopher Brown, but could not find him, according to a sheriff’s office press release. They asked the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue dive team for help.

After searching for about an hour, dive team members found Brown submerged in about 65 feet of water. Alcohol and marijuana are believed to be factors in Brown’s death, according to the sheriff’s office.
