The Crook County Sheriff’s Office has closed an investigation into a Tuesday shooting, where a girl received a nonlife-threatening gunshot wound.

At 2:37 p.m., deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the Juniper Acres subdivision, according to a sheriff’s office news release. Police found a juvenile at the scene who had been shot. She was treated on the scene, then air-lifted to St. Charles Bend.

Original reports pointed to an anonymous assailant, an updated news release said, but investigation later determined the girl shot herself by accident. The news release stated the girl took the gun from her house to familiarize herself with it, and accidentally fired it while trying to “manipulate” the gun.

No criminal charges have been filed in the case.
