PORTLAND — Felony charges have been filed against a woman accused of starting a fire that killed four people and injured three others at a coastal Oregon motel last summer.
Rebecca Sinclair, 38, of Toledo, was extradited to Lincoln County on Tuesday and arraigned on charges of second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, reckless burning and recklessly endangering another person, according to authorities and court records.
She had been arrested on a warrant in Washington state on March 2 but refused to waive extradition, Interim Police Chief Jason Malloy said Thursday. Authorities believe Sinclair, who was staying on the bottom floor of the City Center Motel in Newport, started the blaze by carelessly discarding smoking materials on Aug. 5. Firefighters found the bodies of four people — couples from Portland and Springfield — in two second-floor rooms.
Sinclair has not entered a plea and is being held on $750,000 bail, according to court records.
