Construction on the new Cloudchaser ski lift at Mt. Bachelor is set to begin July 1. The resort plans to have the lift ready for testing by mid-December and up and running for use by Christmas.
Mt. Bachelor General Manager John McLeod said crews have been clearing snow on the east side of the mountain so that foundations for the lift’s terminals and towers can be laid come July. Equipment for the body of the lift is scheduled to arrive later in the summer.
The new lift, announced in April, will be the first built since Northwest Express opened in 1996. It will open an additional 635 acres of skiable area and 6.2 miles of groomed runs, bringing Mt. Bachelor’s total skiable terrain to 4,318 acres.
None of the resort’s summer activities will be affected by construction, McLeod said. The bike park will open and sunset dinners will begin at the start of July.
