The Bend Whitewater Park opened to the public Friday evening, drawing dozens of paddlers and spectators to the four artificial waves downstream of the Colorado Avenue bridge in Bend.

The new facility also includes a safe passage channel, where floaters can easily pass through the area and continue downstream.

The Bend Park & Recreation District and the Bend Paddle Trail Alliance are planning a small event today to mark the end of construction, and Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe will host the last of its Pickin’ and Paddlin’ concerts at 5 p.m. today just upstream of the whitewater park.
