A naked Bend man behaving strangely was detained Sunday morning in Shevlin Park.
At about 8:50 a.m., 911 received the first of two calls regarding the man, according to a news release from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
The first caller was a woman who was jogging in the park; she asked the man if he was OK. He began cursing and threatened to kill her, but she left the area and never felt unsafe, the sheriff’s office said.
About 9:14 a.m., a second woman reported a man “fully nude and yelling and babbling” in the Fremont Meadow area of the park.
Deputies at the park responding to the first call then found Schuyler Stephen Werner, 20, near the meadow.
He became aggressive, charged a deputy and attempted to assault him, the release said. Werner was taken to the ground and handcuffed, and no one was injured. Bend Fire Department medics assessed the condition of Werner, who was taken to St. Charles Bend by ambulance for further evaluation.
When he is released from the hospital, Werner will face accusations of attempted assault of a public safety officer, misdemeanor; resisting arrest, misdemeanor; and second-degree disorderly conduct.
It was not clear whether Werner’s behavior was because of a medical condition or substance abuse, and the incident is under investigation, the sheriff’s office said.
