An 18-year-old hiker was rescued Saturday after getting lost near the Pole Creek Trail in the Three Sisters Wilderness area.

Broek Dyer of Woodburn called Deschutes County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue at about 5 p.m. to say he was lost and had been wondering for four hours. GPS coordinates obtained from the 911 phone call showed he was about two miles south of the trailhead. Rescue crews set out at about 8:30 p.m. and located Dyer about an hour later.

Dyer had spent the night camping with two other hikers, Jordan Cagle, 18, and Caleb Conner, 18, both of Salem. The trio became separated on the hike out. Cagle and Conner were able to hike out to the Pole Creek Trail head without incident.

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office reminds those who go into in the back country to carry necessary equipment, including of a map of the area, GPS and a way to recharge a cell phone.
