A Prineville man spent an unplanned night outside after becoming lost while riding his all-terrain vehicle Sunday east of Bend.

Charlie Kerbow, 62, was found in good condition at 10:30 a.m. Monday on the East Fort Rock OHV Trail System, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office. He told searchers that he became disoriented by dust and separated from his riding party on Sunday. He then had mechanical problems and decided after dark to wait for daylight to find a main trail.

His wife, Alice Kerbow of Prineville, called 911 at 9:55 p.m. Sunday to report that Charlie Kerbow went missing around 5:45 p.m. and his family hadn’t been able to find him, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Charlie Kerbow did not have a phone on him during his ride. The Sheriff’s Office recommends carrying a fully charged cell phone among other essential gear when headed outdoors.
