Petty Thievery free-falls into Bend

This is outdoor music season in Bend, and Thursdays at Drake Park are about to get a lot louder. The 29th season of the ever-popular free concert series, Munch & Music, kicks off Thursday with Petty Thievery, a tribute to roots rock mainstay Tom Petty, who died in October 2017 of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. The Oregon sextet will bring plenty of pedigree to hits such as “Free Fallin’,” “Don’t Do Me Like That” and “American Girl”: Per the band’s website, guitarist Gene Black played with Joe Cocker for 15 years, keyboardist Don Harriss toured with the Pat Travers Band, and everyone in the group continues to play solo or with other original bands. They won’t back down, indeed.

Petty Thievery, with JuJu Eyeball: 5:30 p.m. Thursday; free; Drake Park, 777 NW Riverside Blvd., Bend; munchandmusic.com.
