Mothers and children of all ages are invited to celebrate Mother’s Day by spending it in a classroom kitchen — together.

Oregon State University Extension is offering a class where attendees learn how to make safe, home-canned lemon curd, lemon poppy-seed scones, and soft-whipped cream.

Glenda Hyde, an OSU Extension Educator, aided by OSU Extension Master Food Preservers, will guide small groups in the finer points of baking at high altitudes before brewing tea and carving lemon curd and whipped-cream scones. Gluten-free ingredients will be available.

Participants leave with a jar of canned lemon curd, scones and recipes.

Two sessions of this public workshop will be on Thursday, April 28 at 9 a.m. to noon or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the OSU Extension/Deschutes County office in Redmond (Fairgrounds, Parking Lot D).
