The human remains found Sunday near the intersection of U.S. Highway 20 and Robal Road north of Bend have been identified as Charles F. Shepard, 35, of Bend.
No foul play is suspected in his death, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 10:45 a.m. Sunday, a person walking a dog on private property between Highway 20 and O.B. Riley Road discovered the remains and called 911.
The sheriff’s office investigated the case with the Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office, the Deschutes County Medical Examiner and the Oregon State Police Crime Lab.
This was the second set of remains found near Bend in recent months. Curtis Fredrick Pagel, 48, was found July 28 on U.S. Forest Service land west of Sunriver. The sheriff’s office is investigating that case.
