New York City’s instrumental hybrid Dub Trio, which since 2000 has combined the rhythmic innovations of reggae and dub artists such as King Tubby with snarling thrash and punk riffs, returned this year after a lengthy hiatus with its fifth studio album, “The Shape of Dub to Come.” That shape is monstrously heavy: The album leans toward the stoner-sludge of The Melvins and Mastodon (wouldn’t you know it, King Buzzo of The Melvins and Troy Sanders of Mastodon make guest appearances), while still finding room for psychedelic beauty on a collaboration with singer-rapper Meshell Ndegeocello (“Forget My Name Dub”). These guests offer a small sample of the variety these musicians have pulled off over the years (further resumé plugs include work with one-time Bendite Matisyahu, Lady Gaga, Pretty Lights, 50 Cent, Macy Gray and The Fugees, among many others). Catch the trio on their comeback tour at the Domino Room on Saturday.

Dub Trio: 8 p.m. Saturday, doors open at 7:30 p.m.; $13 plus fees in advance; Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend;, or 541-408-4329.
