A motorcyclist was killed on U.S. Highway 97 Sunday afternoon after being struck by a wild turkey.

Junction City resident Vanesa Gunther, 55, was riding southbound near Moro when she was hit by a turkey that had flown into a northbound commercial vehicle, according to the Oregon State Police.

Gunther was killed when her Kawasaki crossed the northbound lane and hit a guardrail. The northbound lane of Highway 97 was closed for several hours.
