A Bend Fire Department team, along with personnel from Cascade Natural Gas and TransCanada Gas Transmission Northwest, responded to a reported gas leak on Ward and Old Red roads east of Bend at 1:04 a.m. Wednesday after reports of a hissing sound and natural gas odor.
A gas pipeline release was caused by malfunctioning pressure control devices that released excess pressure into the atmosphere, according to Cascade Natural Gas. Representatives from Bend Fire Department and the two gas companies “remediated the issue with minimal public impact,” a press release from the fire department stated.
There was also another release caused by the initial incident at the 15th Street and Bear Creek Road Cascade Natural Gas regulator station, which was resolved with no incident, according to the release.
The fire department stated that if residents smell gas outside, they should make sure they’re in a safe location and call 911.
