Klamath Falls authorities identified Phillip Samuel Moskios Jr., 48, as the man killed Friday after his car was stopped by Oregon State Police officers on U.S. Highway 97 at Modoc Point.
Moskios was stopped at 7:52 a.m. at milepost 258. He was driving with a woman, identified by the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office as Amanda Tammy Lynn Yost, 26.
Moskios was asked to step out of his car, and when he did, he assaulted a state police officer, then ran, according to the sheriff’s office. Moskios was chased by officers with the Klamath Falls Police Department and an agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration. During the chase, Moskios was shot and killed, the sheriff’s office said.
The name of the officers involved and who shot Moskios were not released.
Yost also ran and became the focus of an hourslong search on the ground and from the air. Area schools and government offices were temporarily placed on lockdown. Yost was found hiding in a building and arrested for investigation of first-degree criminal trespass and second-degree burglary.
