Mt. Bachelor plans to open its new lift, Cloudchaser, on Dec. 16, pending a successful load test early next week, the ski area announced Thursday.
“We will perform a short ribbon cutting exercise around 10:30 a.m., after which the winners of our first-chair contest will take their ride on Cloudchaser,” said John McLeod, Mt. Bachelor president and general manager.
The new lift will open up 635 acres of skiable terrain and 6.2 miles of new groomed runs.
Work to reduce the length of the Rainbow lift has fallen behind schedule due to weather, McLeod wrote in an email to season-pass holders. The Outback lift may open Friday, with others to follow soon after. The Summit lift will open with Cloudchaser, if conditions permit, in order to keep skiers away from the construction zone, McLeod wrote.
“These are tough men and women working incredibly hard, and while we are shooting for opening on the 16th as planned, we can’t discount the possibility that weather could impact the schedule,” he wrote.
