After about a yearlong delay, construction has begun this week on OSU-Cascades’ west-side campus off SW Century Drive.
The project has faced a series of challenges from Truth in Site, an organization of neighbors concerned about the development’s impact on traffic. So far, the group’s legal arguments have been struck down by an independent hearings officer, the Bend City Council and a state land use board.
While OSU-Cascades waited for those rulings before beginning construction, the legal fight isn’t over. Truth in Site has filed with the state Court of Appeals, and, if unsuccessful, could later file with the state Supreme Court.
The 10-acre campus will serve about 1,900 students and contain a residence hall, dining center, shops and student gathering spaces.
The university is also evaluating whether to purchase an adjacent 46-acre property, which would give the school space to accommodate 5,000 students.
