Saxophonist Chase Baird, who was part of Grammy-winning drummer Antonio Sánchez’s band, Migration, when it performed at the Tower Theatre in March, will return to Central Oregon with his own quartet Friday to play a rare ticketed show at McMenamins Old St. Francis School (providing some instrumental counter-programming to Jazz at the Oxford’s vocal-jazz opener, Diane Schuur). Baird was born in Seattle, raised in Salt Lake City and mentored by jazz saxophone giant Michael Brecker beginning at age 14. He studied with Ron Blake, Steve Wilson, Joe Temperley and more at The Juilliard School in New York City, and went on to work as a sideman with Jakob Dylan, Chaka Kahn, Christian McBride, Thana Alexa and most recently Sánchez and Migration, which he joined in 2017. Sánchez also appears on Baird’s second studio album as a bandleader, this year’s “A Life Between,” which finds him adding rock muscle to his post-bop compositions.

The Chase Baird Group: 7:30 p.m. Friday, doors open at 6:30 p.m.; $42 plus fees in advance; McMenamins Old St. Francis School, 700 NW Bond St., Bend; or 541-382-5174.
