Texas blues and folk artist Ruthie Foster, who last performed in Central Oregon at the 2016 Sisters Folk Festival, will return to play the Tower Theatre on Sunday. In the interim, Foster earned her seventh Blues Music Award in 2018 and released her ninth studio album, “Joy Comes Back,” in 2017. She teased that record, produced by close friend and neighbor Daniel Barrett and featuring a guest spot from Derek Trucks, in an interview with GO! Magazine in 2016: “There’s a Black Sabbath-meets-Son House song. So just use your imagination on that one.” True to her word, Foster covered Sabbath’s “War Pigs,” turning the metal epic into a gritty, electric-blues song; the rest of the album features reimagined versions of songs originally by The Four Tops, Mississippi John Hurt, Grace Pettis and more. Given Foster’s penchant for switching things up stylistically with each studio record, expect the unexpected at this show.

Ruthie Foster, with Nickel & Rose: 7 p.m. Sunday; $39.50, $59.50, $62 or $67.50 plus theater preservation fee; Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St., Bend; towertheatre.org, 1988entertainment.com or 541-317-0700.
