New York’s Sophistafunk, a Bend favorite thanks to frequent shows with local promoter Parallel 44 Presents, will return to the city to heat up the Apres Ski Bash at Crow’s Feet Commons on Friday. The band’s core trio — vocalist/emcee Jack Brown, keyboardist/bassist Adam Gold and drummer Emanuel Washington — had a busy year in 2018 touring behind their first album in four years, 2017’s “Real Vibration,” and welcoming new saxophonist Tommy Weeks to the fold. “Real Vibration” finds the already genre-bending band expanding its musical palette even more, building on a solid base of live-band hip-hop and neo-funk with elements of smooth jazz, house and EDM, while Brown’s conscious rhymes (on the vocal half of the album — the back half features instrumental versions of the same seven songs) tackle war, activism and post-modern paranoia. You’ll need your brain as well as your dancing shoes for this one.

Sophistafunk: 6:30 p.m. Friday; free; Crow’s Feet Commons, 875 NW Brooks St., Bend; or 541-728-0066.
