Kentucky folksinger Joan Shelley, who will return to Central Oregon for a show at The Suttle Lodge on Wednesday, doesn’t stay in one place very long. She traveled to Chicago to record the self-titled follow-up to her 2015 breakthrough solo album, “Over and Even,” with Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, and went even further — to Iceland — for her sixth album, this year’s “Like the River Loves the Sea.” Musically she’s also a wanderer, with her deceptively gentle songs and Joni Mitchell-esque singing drawing from folk and country traditions from her native South as well as Ireland, England and Scotland. That combination has earned her praise from Rolling Stone and National Public Radio, as well as a bevy of collaborators such as Daniel Martin Moore and fellow Kentuckian Will Oldham. Fellow folkie Marisa Anderson will join Shelley.
Joan Shelley, with Marisa Anderson: 7 p.m. Wednesday, doors open at 5 p.m.; $15 plus fees in advance, $18 at the door; The Suttle Lodge, 13300 U.S. Highway 20, outside Sisters; thesuttlelodge.com or 541-638-7001.
