Like his fellow Nickel Creek band members Chris Thile and sister Sara Watkins, singer-songwriter Sean Watkins collaborates constantly. In addition to his 2016 solo album “What to Fear,” Watkins has kept up occasional dates with Nickel Creek and Fiction Family and in 2015, took his long-running side project with his sister, the Watkins Family Hour, on the road (including a stop at the Tower Theatre). His latest project, a tour and upcoming album with fiddle- and cello-driven trio The Bee Eaters, keeps up with the high musical pedigree of his past work. The instrumental acoustic trio, featuring siblings and Grand National Fiddle Champions Tristan and Tashina Clarridge and hammer dulcimer player Simon Chrisman, share Watkins’ deep roots in traditional music, as well as his willingness to buck that tradition and bring acoustic music into the modern musical era. Hear what they’ve been brewing together at Sisters Saloon & Ranch Grill on Friday.
