Five-time Grammy Award winner and Golden Globe nominee Antonio Sánchez will return to Bend to support his latest album with band Migration, last year’s “Lines in the Sand,” at the Tower Theatre on Saturday. Well-known in jazz circles for work with Pat Metheny, Chick Corea and others, Mexican-born drummer Sánchez rose to national attention after composing the all-percussion score for the 2014 film “Birdman,” which won the Best Picture Oscar in 2015 (and netted Sanchez the Golden Globe nod). Since then, he’s released three studio albums, including 2015’s “The Meridian Suite,” which he performed in its entirety in Bend that same year. “Lines in the Sand” is another cinematic and emotional set of tunes — Sánchez became a naturalized American citizen in 2016, and drew inspiration from the heated immigration debate dominating U.S. politics today.
Antonio Sánchez & Migration: 7:30 p.m. Saturday; $22, $32 or $42 plus theater preservation fee; Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St., Bend; towertheatre.org or 541-317-0700.
