The University of Oregon Bookstore Inc. plans to sell the building in north Bend that, until Jan. 1, housed The Duck Store.
The bookstore, an independent nonprofit organization, opened its first store in Central Oregon in the Old Mill District in 2006 and moved to 80 NE Bend River Mall Drive in 2012.
The store was closed because it couldn’t sustain sales to justify keeping it open, CEO Arlyn Schaufler said in an email. The store’s first obligation is to the academic mission of the University of Oregon, he said. Schaufler said he did not think sales were affected by the availability of Oregon Ducks gear at other stores in the region.
The building will be listed soon with C.W. Walker & Associates, Inc. of Eugene, Schaufler said. The 5,000-square-foot building is on about half an acre of commercially zoned land, owned by University of Oregon Bookstore Inc., according to the Deschutes County Assessor.
Editor’s note: This story has been updated. A previous version incorrectly identified the University of Oregon as the owner of The Duck Store.
