Alexis Taylor, director of the Oregon Department of Agriculture and nominee for USDA's top agricultural trade role, testifies Thursday before the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry.

Alexis Taylor, director of Oregon’s agriculture department, answered questions about expanding export markets and aiding the agribusiness economy Thursday during a U.S. Senate hearing on her nomination for the top trade role in the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The White House in May nominated Taylor to be the USDA’s undersecretary for trade and foreign agricultural affairs, a position that has been vacant since President Biden took office. The next step is for the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry to vote to send Taylor’s nomination to the full Senate.
