Jason Randles, formerly digital marketing manager at Deschutes Brewery, is now working for Crux Fermentation Project as manager of branding and marketing, the company announced Tuesday in a news release.

Randles, who rejoins Crux brewmaster and co-founder Larry Sidor, also a Deschutes Brewery alumnus, takes over the marketing position from Crux co-founder Paul Evers, who stepped away from active involvement with Crux in late December.

“He leaves some big shoes to fill. He and Bobby (Evers’ son) did an excellent jub cultivating the brand,” Randles said Tuesday. “He’s been very gracious handing off the keys to the brand. I want to take what he did and take it to the next level.”

Randles said he rose at Deschutes Brewery from answering phones to become digital marketing manager, a responsibility that didn’t even exist when he came on board. That development, the creation of a Deschutes brewpub in Portland and the announcement last year of a new brewery to be built in Virginia were highlights of his time at Deschutes Brewery, he said.

“Deschutes is an awesome company and I had a great 17 years there,” Randles said. “It’s bittersweet, for sure.”

Randles’ first priority will be the roll-out in February of Crux’s PCT Porter, named for the Pacific Crest Trail, Sidor said.

“Porter is one of my favorite beers and (PCT) definitely has the Crux twist on it,” he said.

He said Randles’ hiring came about through a routine process of searching for someone to take Evers’ place in marketing.

“We’re thrilled to have him,” Sidor said. “He gets to steer the ship, and that’s everybody’s goal, right?”
