Bulletin Staff Report

The Robert Axle Project, a Bend-based maker of bike thru axles, acquired Old Man Mountain Products of Santa Barbara, California.

The two brands will continue to operate as separate entities, but assembly, warehousing and shipping of Old Man Mountain’s cargo racks will move to Bend, said Katy Bryce, co-owner of The Robert Axle Project. Channing Hammond, founder and only employee of Old Man Mountain, will move on to other endeavors, she said.

Old Man Mountain Products provides bicycle components for carrying gear, which complements The Robert Axle Project portfolio. The Bend company began in 2013 from a need to attach trailers to thru axle-equipped bikes. The company has six full-time and part-time employees.

The acquisition price was not disclosed.
