Owner: Elixir Wine Group

General Contractor: Charles Ermisch/CE Cutting Edge

Architect: BLRB Architects

Details: Elixir Wine Group will open a new tasting room this fall at 11 NW Lava Road, where a new headquarters is under construction.

The 3,300 square-foot, two-story building will replace the small house that formerly occupied the site, said Jim Landin, associate principal at BLRB Architects in Bend. The design of Elixir’s new building was approved by the Bend Landmarks Commission last year, he said.

Elixir founder Kirk Ermisch began importing fine wines in Bend in 2001, he said in an email. The company changed its name in 2012 to Elixir Wine Group to reflect its mission of selecting, importing and selling high-quality, undiscovered wines from Latin America, as well as Portugal, Spain, France and Italy.

Elixir’s new building will have space on the ground floor for retail sales, wine tasting, a small kitchen, as well as storage and production of small batches of wine, Landin said.

The new building has been planned since 2015 and is going up on land that Ermisch owns. Ermisch said his father, Charles Ermisch, came out of retirement to manage the construction project, which broke ground last year. Subcontractors include Ashley & Vance Engineering Inc., Wystan Brown Excavating, Northwest Framing Systems, Reynolds Electric, Severson Plumbing and Bend Heating.
