SISTERS — Through three quarters, Sisters played evenly with visiting Burns.

But in the fourth, as Outlaws coach Rand Runco put it, “we got the jump on them.”

Sisters logged three straight steals in the final period, two of them leading to Outlaw field goals. It gave Class 4A Sisters the lead, and they would hold on to it for a 45-42 nonconference boys basketball win over the 3A Hilanders on Tuesday night.

“We trusted our defense,” Runco said. “That’s one of our rules. Kids jumped a couple balls and made some great plays.”

Connor Schaab posted 18 points and 12 rebounds to guide Sisters (2-9) to its second win in three games.

“He’s really been stepping up,” said Runco, whose team trailed 18-11 in the second quarter before rallying for the victory. “The last two or three games, he’s really found a zone.”

Hayden Martinez added 11 points, and Justin Harrer finished with six points and five boards for the Outlaws, who connected on 8 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
