SUNRIVER — Two Washington golfers were tied atop the boys standings, and a California player led the girls division Tuesday after the first day of the Sunriver Junior Open on the Meadows course at Sunriver Resort. Spokane’s Nate Plaster and Liberty Lake’s Zach Stocker each fired a 4-under-par 67 during the opening round of the 54-hole American Junior Golf Association tournament, showcasing top 12- to 19-year-old players representing 20 states and two foreign countries.

Scotty Kennon, from Bandon, was third in the 98-player boys field after carding a 68, while Bend’s William Fleck heads into Wednesday’s second round after carding a 77, tied for 55th place.

In the girls competition, Kornkamol Sukaree, from Huntington Beach, California, leads with a 3-under 68. Kathrine Chan, from Richmond, British Columbia, is second at 69. Bend’s Olivia Loberg finished with an 80 to tie for 19th, and Bend’s Sophie Dalfonsi rounded out the 33-player field with a 92.

Play continues Wednesday and concludes on Thursday.
