Bend’s Thomas wins Ironman 70.3 Augusta — Jesse Thomas, 37 and of Bend, won the Ironman 70.3 Augusta triathlon in Georgia in 3 hours, 42 minutes, 14 seconds Sunday. Thomas completed the 1.2-mile swim in 22:10, the 56-mile bike in 2:04:55 and ran the half-marathon length final leg in 1:12:48. Andy Potts, 40 and of Hershey, Pennsylvania, was the runner-up in 3:43:25. Thomas will next race at the Ironman World Championships in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, on Oct. 14.

COBO announces Sunday preseason clinics — The Central Oregon Basketball Organization will host clinics for boys and girls each Sunday from Oct. 8 through 22. Kids in seventh and eighth grades will play from 4 to 6 p.m. at Mountain View High School in Bend, and fifth-and sixth-graders will follow from 6 to 8 p.m. Registration costs $50 for Bend Park & Recreation District residents and 460 for nonresidents. Fall Fling dressage show scheduled for Oct. 15 — The Central Oregon Chapter of the Oregon Dressage Society will host the Fall Fling show at Stone Pony Dressage Center in Redmond on Oct. 15. The show is open to competitors who are not members of the ODS. The event is a fundraiser for Sky Dog Equine Sanctuary outside of Prineville. The registration deadline is Wednesday.
