Mandatory officials meeting Tuesday — The Bend Park & Recreation District is in need of referees for the upcoming youth flag football season. Prior experience is not necessary, but prospective officials must be at least 14 years old, have a sound knowledge of football and be able to pass a criminal background check and drug test. Referees will be paid between $12 and $18 per game. Games will be played on Sundays from Sept. 17 to Nov. 5. Pilot Butte Challenge to be run Sept. 29 — The Pilot Butte Challenge, a 1-mile race to the summit of Pilot Butte in Bend, will start at 5:45 p.m. Sept. 29. Registration costs $20 for adults and $15 for kids 17 and under and seniors ages 65 and up. Spectator wristbands for those who would like to attend but do not wish to race up the butte are available for $5.
