BEA sends six to Junior Nationals — Bend Endurance Academy nordic skiers Ryan St. Clair (age 19), Teddy Widmer (17), Vivian Hawkinson (17), Tom Schoderbeck (15), Alex Heisler (15), and Sam Biskup (14) have all qualified for the 2014 Junior National Nordic Ski Championships in Stowe, Vt., March 1-8. BEA racers earned berths to the national championships by finishing within 7 percent back of the leaders in at least five of eight Pacific Northwest Ski Association (PNSA) races.
MBSEF females post wins — Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation’s Carina Bracy, age 15, won the super-G at the 2014 Sun Cup on Feb. 18 at Mt. Bachelor, besting a field of 58 competitors. Fellow MBSEF skiers Ashley Lodmell and Erin Smith placed fifth and sixth, respectively. On Feb. 19, Lodemll won the Super G during the second day of the Sun Cup, also at Mt. Bachelor, and Bracy took fourth.
Local males post top-20 finishes — Wilder Von Rohr placed third and sixth at two super-G events during the Sun Cup at Mt. Bachelor on Feb. 18 and 19 to lead a contingent of Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation skiers. Walter Lafky took ninth and 16th, during the two-day event, and Jack Botti finished 20th on Feb. 18 and 12th on Feb. 19.
Course for officials — An introductory course for aspiring soccer referees has been scheduled for March 1 and 2 at the St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. Cost is $85. The class runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 2.
