Youth races crown winners — Will Anderson won the MBSEF youth Candy Bar Race on Saturday, turning in a time of 11 minutes, 13 seconds on the 2.4-kilometer course on Mt. Bachelor ski area’s nordic trails. The Cascade Middle School student topped runner-up Ryder Uetrecht, also of Cascade, by 8 seconds. Anna Tavakolian bested a field of 25 skiers in the 1K race.
Course for officials — An introductory course for aspiring soccer referees has been scheduled for March 1-2 at the St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. Cost is $85. The class runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 2. COTA movie night — Central Oregon Trail Association hosts the documentary “Rising from Ashes” on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 9 p.m. at McMenamins’ Old St. Francis school. The movie chronicles a group of Rwandan genocide survivors rallying to form a national cycling team. Cost is $5, cash only.
Sled Dog races
Fowler second at Eagle Cap — Sunriver’s Bino Fowler placed second in the Eagle Cap Extreme’s 100-mile race on Jan. 23 near the northeastern Oregon town of Joseph. Fowler’s dog team finished the race in 15 hours, 30 minutes. Roy Etnire won the 100-mile event in 15 hours, 11 minutes.
