Cal Waterman drove in two runs and scored twice, and the Bend Elks cruised to a 13-3 win over the Bellingham Bells on Monday night at Vince Genna Stadium.
Waterman, a sophomore catcher from Washington State and a former Summit High star, had just four RBIs all season heading into Monday.
He singled in George Mendazona to give the Elks a 3-0 lead in the second inning, and his run-scoring single in the seventh started a five-run rally that gave Bend (3-4 second half, 15-19 overall) a 12-3 lead.
Mendazona’s run in the second came after a double steal that scored Matt Kroon. The Elks scored two in the fifth, on RBI singles from Jack Pauley and Kroon, and added two more in the sixth when Waterman and Colton Cosner each scored on separate wild pitches.
In the seventh, Jaylon McLaughlin was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Derek Chapman’s bases-loaded single led to an error by the Bells catcher and three Elks runs. Runge scored in the eighth on an error.
Elks starter Kyle Cantu (3-2) allowed three runs on nine hits and a with one strikeout in six innings.
The Elks play the second of a three-game series against the Bells (2-2, 18-13) on Tuesday evening. First pitch is scheduled from 6:35 p.m.
